Ild Faux

Updated: Oct 23

In a realm shrouded in time-worn enmity, where mythical creatures roamed and titanic battles between fantastical beings unfolded, there existed a creature unlike any other: Ild Faux, a remarkable fusion of phoenix and basilisk. Towering above the tallest trees, with feathers that gleamed like molten gold, she was both beautiful and formidable. Her long tail, coiling and flicking like a serpent, hinted at the ancient power coursing through her. Ild Faux’s magnificent wings stretched wide, casting shadows that cloaked the ground beneath her in twilight. But it was her eyes that truly set her apart—a cyan right eye that glowed with an ethereal light, capable of turning any creature to stone with a single gaze, starkly opposed by her left magenta eye, whose tears possessed the elixir of healing.

Born of a forbidden love that transcended the boundaries of species, Ild Faux’s life was colored by tragedy from the very beginning. Her parents—a magnificent phoenix and a proud basilisk—had defied the norms of their worlds, their love blazing bright until revelation unraveled their bond. When their union was discovered, their respective species turned against them, subjected to public torture and humiliation that burned raw in the hearts of the couple. Their love, pure yet forbidden, was condemned by the basilisk clan, leading to a tragic fate; her father was executed, the flames of betrayal licking away at his scales, as his soul became ensnared within an unbreakable dragon glass egg, hidden away from the world. Meanwhile, her mother was gifted to the dark mage, who imprisoned her in a metal cage and cast her into the abyss of the ocean, shrouded in despair and silence. The dark mage, a figure cloaked in ambition, had long sought the secret of dragon mastery, and at the basilisk’s death ceremony, he stumbled upon dragon glass's true nature. With newfound knowledge, he crafted enchanted glasses made of dragon glass, allowing him to peer into the ethereal realms and glimpse the spirits of dragons, forever tethered to the world. Unbeknownst to him, the essence of Ild Faux’s parents would soon intertwine with his dark ambitions, as she, a child of both fire and shadow, prepared to rise, not only to discover her lineage but also to reclaim what had been lost—a fight against the tide of darkness that had torn her family apart.

Each day, Ild Faux would soar above sprawling kingdoms, her keen intellect scanning the earth below for any trace of her parents. The stories of her origin were whispered among the inhabitants of the realm, but none would dare speak directly to her without her express permission. To approach her required an act of humility; suitors of discussion were required to bow down, making themselves vulnerable to her judgment. Only then could they hope to be deemed worthy of hearing the profound wisdom she harbored—an intelligence gleaned from centuries of history and experience that granted her insight into the very nature of conflict and cooperation.

While many feared Ild Faux for her astonishing power—her ability to petrify with a glance, to annihilate cities, or to bring life back with a single tear—her heart yearned for peace. The endless war that gripped their world thwarted her quest for her parents, and the burdens of conflict cut deep through the fibers of her being. With great resolve, she sought allies from both sides of the war, individuals burdened by the very same tribalism and hatred that had torn her family apart.

Overhead, in the skies that burned with the hues of dusk, she would cry out, her calls echoing over lands marked by division. Time and again, warriors, dragons, and humans alike would fall to their knees, their spirits stilled before her, only to be uplifted through her words of wisdom. "End your quarrels, or risk losing the ones you hold dear," she would warn, her voice resonating like thunder, filled with the desperation of a daughter seeking her family. There were whispers that Ild Faux aimed to unite the realms—to bring an end to the senseless bloodletting that had cost her so dearly.

In her travels, she encountered individuals who had lost loved ones to the endless strife; they resonated with her quest. An unlikely band of human artisans, young dragonlings shrouded in mischief, and even former enemies began to rally under her wing, spearheaded by their desire to achieve something greater than mere warfare. Fueled by a shared vision, they sought to defeat those who perpetuated the hatred between their kin and to dismantle the systems that allowed prejudice and division to thrive.

But the forces of darkness were tenacious. A coalition of extremists from both factions—guided by fear and misguided loyalty—swore to eliminate the creature they deemed an abomination, a fusion of two worlds deemed irreconcilable. They launched an offensive upon Ild Faux and her growing alliance, believing that with her destruction, they would rid the realm of the contagion of her ideology.

Determined, Ild Faux faced her attackers with her magnificent wings spread wide and her eyes blazing—pain and hope intertwining in the depths of her gaze. The battle was fierce, as fiery explosions erupted around her and the air thrummed with tension. Though they ganged up upon her, she stood tall against their onslaught. Each time they succeeded in striking her down, Ild Faux underwent a rebirth, flames swirling around her, granting her strength as an avalanche of fire and ash consumed her. She soared higher, her power formidable, her resolve stronger.

But instead of retaliation, she turned her gaze upon her foes with her cyan eye, longing for them to understand the futility of their hatred. The light that emanated from her softened their hearts, allowing fractures of compassion to splinter the walls they had built around their anger. History subsumed their hatred; they began to see reflections of their own suffering and drove home the reality that they were prisoners of a larger conflict.

As Ild Faux offered healing tears made from her essence, the period of transformation began. Those who had once fought against her now knelt in repentance, becoming allies in the pursuit of peace. Gradually, new alliances formed amidst the remnants of war, unraveling the bitter ties of the past. The unity they forged marked the dawn of a new era—one where love could flourish unrestricted, and two worlds could merge into one.

Despite these victories, Ild Faux harbored a wild hope for her parents—a burning desire to reclaim the love that had brought her into being. In every new dawn, she resumed her search, leaving a legacy of compassion in her wake, urging a conflict-torn world toward forgiveness. Each time the skies ignited with the colors of the sunrise, a new chapter began—a chapter filled with love strong enough to viably bridge the divides, much like the love that birthed her. And she would continue to search, unyielding and resolute, for a world transformed in which her parents could finally return to her side, free to love anew amidst a backdrop of peace
